[0:00 — Title card] Screen text: "Sign In with the New UMS SSO / A guide to the updated University of Maine System (UMS) Single Sign-On (SSO) experience." The Maine's Public Universities logo appears in the upper right. A laptop showing the UMS sign-in page is displayed on the left.
Narrator [0:08]: Hi, and welcome. This video walks you through the updated sign-in experience for University of Maine System websites and services.
[0:10 — Slide: "What Is Single Sign-On (SSO)?"] Screen text on left: "One login gives you access to multiple UMS sites and services / Sign in with your full UMS email address and password / You may be prompted to verify your identity to complete sign-in." An image on the right shows people working at desktop computers.
Narrator [0:10]: What is Single Sign-On? Single Sign-On — or SSO — means one login gives you access to multiple UMS websites and services. You'll use your full UMS email address and password to sign in. You may also be prompted for an extra verification step called multi-factor authentication, or MFA — we cover that in a separate video.
[0:35 — Transition slide] Screen text: "New SSO walkthrough."
[0:40 — Browser screen recording begins] A browser window opens. The address bar is blank, then the URL mycampus.maine.edu is typed in. The browser shows a UMS wallpaper with the Maine's Public Universities logo and a blue lower section.
Narrator [0:40]: Now let's walk through what the new sign-in experience actually looks like. Start by navigating to a UMS website that requires you to sign in. In this example, we'll use mycampus.maine.edu.
[0:50 — Sign-in page appears] The browser is redirected. The address bar now shows a long URL beginning with https://login.microsoftonline.com. The sign-in page displays: the Maine's Public Universities logo at the top; a "Sign in" heading; an email field with placeholder text "username@maine.edu"; a "Can't access your account?" link; "Back" and "Next" buttons; and a footer reading "Manage your account at accounts.maine.edu. Find help articles and support options at itsupport.maine.edu." A "Sign-in options" link appears below the main card.
Narrator [0:50]: You'll be redirected to the UMS single sign-on login page.
[1:00 — Animated arrows highlight page elements] A blue arrow points left toward the Maine's Public Universities logo in the sign-in card.
Narrator [1:00]: Before entering your credentials, always confirm you're on the right page — this helps protect your account from phishing attempts. Look for the Maine's Public Universities logo, a gray footer with links to manage your account and support options…
[1:05] A blue arrow points upward toward the browser address bar, which shows https://login.microsoftonline.com highlighted.
Narrator [1:05]: ...and a web address that includes login.microsoftonline.com. That Microsoft address is expected — the UMS login page is hosted by Microsoft. If anything looks off, don't enter your credentials. Contact the IT Service Desk instead.
[1:25 — Email entered] The email field now shows "jane.doe@maine.edu" typed in.
Narrator [1:25]: In the Sign in field, enter your full UMS email address — for example, jane.doe@maine.edu. Make sure to include the full address, not just your username.
[1:30 — Next clicked] The cursor clicks the blue "Next" button.
Narrator [1:30]: Then click Next.
[1:35 — Password screen] The page transitions to a new screen showing: "jane.doe@maine.edu" with a back arrow at the top; an "Enter password" heading; an empty password field; "Forgot my password" and "Use a certificate or smart card" links; and a blue "Sign in" button.
Narrator [1:35]: On the following screen, enter your UMS password and click Sign in.
[1:43 — Password entered] The password field is filled with bullet characters (password hidden). The cursor moves toward the "Sign in" button.
[1:50 — MFA prompt] The page changes to show: "jane.doe@maine.edu" at the top; "Approve sign in request" heading; a shield icon with the message "Open your Authenticator app and approve the request. Enter the number if prompted."; the number 97 displayed prominently; the text "Didn't receive a sign-in request? Swipe down to refresh the content in your app."; and links for "I can't use my Microsoft Authenticator app right now" and "More information."
Narrator [1:50]: If you have multi-factor authentication enabled, you'll see an Approve sign in request screen. We’re using Microsoft Authenticator in this video but you may see a different MFA option depending on your settings. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete authentication.
[2:10 — Stay signed in?] A new screen appears with: "jane.doe@maine.edu" at the top; "Stay signed in?" heading; the message "Do this to reduce the number of times you are asked to sign in."; a checked "Don't show this again" checkbox; and "No" and "Yes" buttons. The cursor clicks "Yes."
Narrator [2:10]: You may then be asked if you want to stay signed in — if you're on your own device, select Yes.
[2:15 — Slide: "Domain Confirmation"] Screen text on left: "A prompt may appear asking if you trust maine.edu / The screen will show your email address and the domain associated with your account (maine.edu) / Select Confirm to continue / If you don't recognize the domain, do not confirm – contact the IT Service Desk." On the right, a dialog box is shown reading: "jane.doe@maine.edu / Do you trust maine.edu? / You're about to sign-in with your maine.edu account. Only continue if you recognize this account. / Why am I seeing this? / [Cancel] [Continue]"
Narrator [2:15]: During sign-in, some users may see an extra screen asking them to confirm the domain they're signing in to. The screen will display your email address and the domain connected to your account, which is maine.edu. If that looks right, simply select Confirm and you'll continue signing in as normal. If the domain doesn't match what you expect, stop and don't confirm — contact the IT Service Desk for help. That’s all it takes!
[2:40 — Slide: "Need Help?"] Screen text: "Manage your account or reset your password: accounts.maine.edu / Help articles and support: itsupport.maine.edu / MFA setup and instructions: see the MFA documentation / Contact the IT Service Desk for additional assistance." Images cycle showing a person using a laptop on a couch, then a person wearing a headset at a help desk.
Narrator [2:40]: If you run into any issues, here's where to go for help. To manage your account or reset your password, go to accounts.maine.edu. For help articles, support options and documentation, visit IT support.maine.edu. And if you need further assistance, the IT Service Desk is available to help. Thanks for watching!
[3:05 — End card] Screen shows the Maine's Public Universities logo and "University of Maine System" centered on a light gray background with the UMS watermark.
