1. HAS TO BE IN NEUTRAL or it won't start
2. Once the engine starts, stop turning the key If you continue to crank the engine when it is running, you will burn out the starter
3. Pull choke out if the engine is cold and doesn't want to start right away
4. Push choke back in gradually once it starts
