Demonstration of hind and front leg lameness at the trot. Note the tendency of head to rise when the lame front leg is on the ground ("a head bob"), and the pelvis to rise when the lame hind leg is on the ground ("a hip hike"). The goal is primarily to determine if the horse is lame, and, if so, on which leg. Horizontal bars around the arena help to serve as a reference point to identify a head bob or a hip hike.
