We describe physical flexion of each joint to detect lameness, use of a flexion test of the reciprocal apparatus (hock and stifle, also known as a spavin test, spaving being a general term for hock lameness), and use of hoof testers. We then show the horse trotting on the straight away and on the longe line in slow motion, in which Sara appears sound when trotting in a straight line, but can detect a head bob when longeing to the left. Can you tell which leg is lame based on the longeing video? The horizon of the arena surface serves as a useful marker in the slow motion video in which a head bob can be seen.
